Akbank AG, the Germany-based subsidiary of Istanbul-headquartered Akbank, has gone live with a new cloud-native core banking platform from Dutch core banking vendor Mambu, alongside a parallel transformation of its data warehouse and reporting architecture.
The go-live marks a significant milestone in Akbank AG’s modernisation journey as EU-licensed banks increasingly look beyond replacing legacy cores to rebuilding the operational, data and control foundations required for regulatory compliance, real-time reporting and cross-border scalability.
Operating under a German banking licence from BaFin, Akbank AG serves customers across Germany and the wider EU, supporting financial activity between Europe and Turkey. The new core banking platform runs on Microsoft Azure, with Innovance Consultancy acting as implementation partner for the production go-live. The programme was supported by Akbank Teknoloji (AkTech) – Akbank’s specialised technology unit launched in March last year – alongside additional partners responsible for integrations and controls.
Announcing the milestone on LinkedIn on 30 January, Mehmet Ali Ozcan, managing director at Innovance Consultancy, highlighted the operational focus of the delivery.
“I am happy to share that the core banking platform at Akbank AG is now live in production, marking a major operational milestone in its transformation to a modern, cloud-native architecture.”
He added:
“Delivered by Innovance Consultancy on top of Mambu and Microsoft Azure, this platform was brought live with a strong focus on operational stability, data integrity, and day-one readiness.”
According to Ozcan, the go-live brought together “multiple critical workstreams” including data migration, end-to-end validation of daily banking operations and end-of-day processes, and alignment of accounting reconciliation and reporting. He described the outcome as “a strong reflection of disciplined execution, shared ownership, and close collaboration across all teams”.
Alongside the core replacement, Akbank AG also undertook a comprehensive rebuild of its data warehouse and reporting capabilities to ensure trusted operational and financial reporting from day one.
In a separate LinkedIn update, Fulya İnal, technical leader at Akbank, wrote:
“Following the successful Mambu Phase-1 go-live at Akbank AG, we’d like to spotlight the data warehouse and reporting transformation that helped make this milestone possible, enabling trusted, end-to-end operational and financial reporting from day one.”
Detailing the approach, İnal explained:
“We began with reverse engineering the existing landscape to understand legacy flows, critical dependencies and hidden business rules. From there, we addressed multiple technical challenges and built a new foundation from scratch that could support both cut-over readiness and stable post go-live operations.”
The transformation covered data integrations across internal platforms and external touchpoints, cloud data warehouse design and implementation, operational and financial reporting layers, controlled migration and cut-over scenarios, pre- and post-cut-over validations and reconciliations, and the foundations for regulatory and statutory reporting with embedded control checks.
Looking ahead, İnal noted that the work provides a scalable base for future phases of the bank’s transformation.
“Phase-1 is now a solid baseline—not only for the next phases of the core banking journey, but also as a reusable data and reporting foundation that can support future integrations, migrations, validations and compliance-driven reporting needs.”
The Akbank AG go-live reflects a broader shift in core banking modernisation across Europe via bank fintech partnership, where success is increasingly measured by execution discipline and end-to-end readiness, spanning transaction processing, data, reporting and controls—rather than technology choice alone.
