BBVA and Google Cloud have announced the global rollout of Google Workspace with Gemini to further advance the bank’s digital transformation and strengthen its leadership in AI innovation. This expanded collaboration will equip BBVA’s 100,000 employees worldwide with secure generative AI capabilities embedded in productivity tools like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and more.
According to BBVA, automating repetitive tasks with Gemini is already saving employees nearly three hours per week on average—time they can now dedicate to higher-value, customer-focused activities.
BBVA has been working closely with Google Cloud to modernize its operations since 2011. With this new deployment, employees gain a powerful AI-powered assistant integrated within the Workspace applications they rely on every day. Gemini will help teams summarize, draft, and locate information across emails, chats, and documents; create professional presentations, spreadsheets, and videos; and improve collaboration and note-taking during meetings.
In addition to Workspace with Gemini, BBVA staff will have access to the standalone Gemini app and NotebookLM—an AI-driven research and writing assistant that enables employees to conduct research, generate audio summaries of complex findings, draft reports, and more.
“The partnership with Google Cloud allows us to continue transforming how our teams work, make decisions, and collaborate—using the most advanced generative AI models available,” said Elena Alfaro, Global Head of AI Adoption at BBVA. “We believe that Gemini with Workspace will simplify daily tasks and inspire new ideas, greatly enhancing our teams’ productivity and innovation.”
“BBVA revolutionized the way we work with Google Workspace over a decade ago,” added Juan Ortigosa, Global Head of Workplace at BBVA. “By embracing generative AI across our tools, we expect to further improve efficiency and enrich the employee experience for everyone, no matter their role.”
Isaac Hernandez, Country Manager for Spain at Google Cloud, emphasized the broader impact: “This expanded partnership with BBVA highlights the transformative power of generative AI in the enterprise. Google Cloud is committed to delivering the most advanced AI tools, like Gemini, to help industry leaders like BBVA unlock new levels of innovation and operational excellence. We have been a proud partner of BBVA’s digital journey for years, and this deployment of Gemini will redefine the future of banking.”
To support this AI adoption, BBVA has launched a mandatory training program, AI Express, designed to educate employees on secure, responsible use of artificial intelligence. The training aligns with the European Union’s AI Act and BBVA’s internal policies on data protection and confidentiality.
Access to Google Workspace with Gemini, the Gemini app, and NotebookLM will be granted to employees who complete the training. This approach ensures all teams are fully prepared to leverage these generative AI solutions effectively and ethically, in line with BBVA’s AI governance standards.
Through this strategic initiative, BBVA and Google Cloud will continue to accelerate digital transformation across financial services, setting a new benchmark for AI-powered innovation in banking.
